There is so much to do in the city of Chicago—in fact, you’d be hard pressed to find something here you can’t do. But, there are a few things that stand out about the Windy City as being absolutely spectacular. When it comes to Chicago, here are the three things this city truly does better than anyone else.

Museums
You may not know this about Chicago, but it’s home to some of the best museums in the country. In fact, the Art Institute of Chicago ranked #2 on Forbes list of best museums in America, as well as many other national lists. If you’re visiting for a short amount of time, the Art Institute is absolutely a must-see, but if you’re looking at Chicago apartments for rent to make this great city your home, there are so many other incredible and lesser-known museums you need to add to your bucket list.
The Field Museum is another popular and highly-ranked destination for anyone who loves biology and natural history. For those with more modern taste, the Museum of Contemporary Art is full of unique exhibitions from artists of all kinds, including musicians such as David Bowie, and currently, Nick Cave. If you’re not necessarily into paintings and sculptures, but love the world of music and pop culture, there is certain to be an exhibit here that will interest you.
Pizza and Hot Dogs
Any visit to Chi-town isn’t complete without a true local hot dog and slice of iconic Chicago pizza, the two dishes that are practically synonymous with this area. Let’s start with pizza. The Chicago deep-dish pizza is definitely something you won’t find elsewhere in the country. The thickness of the crust, the way it’s pressed into the pan almost like a pie, the multiple layers of cheesy and saucy goodness—it’s truly a unique dish and unlike any pizza you’ve ever had before. Sure, you’ll find half-hearted copycats in major cities, but try an authentic local slice and you’ll never go back.
The hot dog is almost equally as famous locally, and if you’re not enjoying one during a game at Wrigley Field, there are a number of places to find a genuine Chicago dog around the city. What makes a Chigago hot dog different from anywhere else? According to Wikipedia, you’ll find it on a poppy seed bun, topped with mustard, relish, onion, tomato, a pickle, pickled sport peppers, and some celery salt. It may seem like a mouthful (literally) to those who haven’t had the opportunity to experience this treat, but you’ll just have to see what the hype is about for yourself.
Sports
Whether you’re a long-time local and die-hard fan of Chicago sports, or you’re just in town for a visit from another sports-crazed city, there’s no denying that Chicago is a city full of sports culture and history. Not only was roller derby invented here (one of the most entertaining and fun sports of all time, if you ask me), but the city is home to more major professional sports franchises than almost anywhere in the country, third only to New York City and Los Angeles.
Sports really are life in Chicago, and those who aren’t a fan of the teams can at least respect the hard work and dedication that goes into each team that comes out of this city, particularly the underrated Blackhawks, who have brought home the Stanley Cup six times, one of the best records in the NHL. Of course, we can’t forget the iconic “Da Bears,” and if you don’t recognize the reference, you might need to do a little research before setting foot on Soldier Field.
