Since the advent of the first electronic cigarette, vaping is an activity that has taken the nation by storm – and perhaps the entire world. Why is it so popular, then? What makes it so vastly different from smoking cigarettes that it has caught the attention of even the younger generations who grew up with all the warnings about nicotine and addiction?
Obviously, there is a lot to unpack here to fully understand this. Today, I want to dig into how much of that is true versus not and help you to understand some of the different aspects of vaping that we tend not to hear about. After all, not all pens are the same, and not all of them use nicotine.

What is Vaping?
Let us start out here, just in case you are not familiar with it already. There are many posts like this one, https://www.webmd.com/connect-to-care/vaping/what-is-vaping, that offer some further insights into the topic if you want to brush up on your knowledge. With that being said, it is not overly difficult to understand.
When we do this, we are using a device that brings heat to whatever liquid that we select. This forms the vapor that we breath in, hence the terminology. Generally speaking, a lot of us view it as something that is better for us than smoking cigarettes. This is true to some extent, at least, since lung cancer is definitely more prevalent amongst traditional smokers than vapers.
The mouthpiece is what allows us to breath in whatever we have in the vape. That could be marijuana, nicotine, or other substances like delta 8. When we exhale, it lets out a cloud or puff of vapor. Thankfully, it is not the same as secondhand smoke for the people that we are around, so it is less of a public disturbance.
Why is it so Popular?
Obviously, there is not one single reason why it has become such a trend to start vaping. Rather, several factors are at play here, some of which I have already mentioned. The fact that most of us perceive it as a better alternative to cigarettes plays a large part in this.
However, there are other things at work as well. If you look at pages like hififarms, you can see one of them on display. That is, of course, how many fun and unique flavors there are to try. They are quite appealing for a lot of people and make the taste a lot more palatable.
Who can resist things like gelato or blue dream, right? They sound quite fun and typically the tastes are pretty good as well. Combined, these are certainly compelling reasons for many of us to at least give it a try once.
Finally, there is the fact that not all vapes use nicotine. Obviously, in states where marijuana is legal, that is one of the best parts for people. They are able to vape marijuana rather than having to rely on a bong or other way of ingesting that is not everyone’s cup of tea.
There is also delta 8, which is seen as a replacement for weed in many of the states where it is not legalized yet. You see, because it is a THC but synthesized from hemp plants, it offers a similar but not identical sensation to that of marijuana. Obviously, this is quite appealing for anyone who wants to use weed but cannot for some reason or another.
Should we be Concerned?
To conclude today, I want to shift gears a bit. There have been many articles online about the dangerous aspects to vaping, and I suppose that I can understand that. We should, as consumers, definitely be informed about the risks of products that we are purchasing. However, I think that the misinformation campaign has probably gone a bit far.
Simply put, we cannot equate vaping to the traditional forms of smoking that we are familiar with. They are not the same, as the parts of the cigarette that make it the most detrimental to our health are not a part of vapes. You can see that on this page, if you are curious for more information.
So, that already gives vaping a leg up in terms of safety. Now, with any nicotine products, there is always going to be a risk of addiction. However, as we have established, not all of these devices actually utilize nicotine. So, for the ones that use delta 8 or marijuana, they are not nearly as risky in terms of developing an addiction, either.
As you can see, while there are certainly factors to worry about, they are not as bad as the media may make it seem. The biggest concern in my opinion is the fact that young children and high schoolers are getting their hands on these devices. There is good reason that on a federal level we prohibit the ingestion of nicotine until age eighteen and marijuana until age twenty-one.
You see, young minds are still developing, and introducing substances like these can impact that growth in a negative way. Other than that, though, there seems to be little reason not to use a vape pen. In fact, some of them, such as the disposable ones, offer a portable and easy-to-use solution for chronic pain and anxiety! The potential medical applications alone are worth not dismissing it entirely.
